Agbedidi is a celebration of African Drum and Dance. In this dance piece the rebellious teenager attempts to chop down the sacred tree of his tribe. With his motion of striking the tree the forest comes to life and the animals come to protect their world. When seeking inspiration for this design I looked to some of the most deadly animals in Africa. I also imagined myself as a youth in Africa and one of my biggest fears would be a snake slithering in the dark. Which is how I thought this young character may have felt when the forest came to life. I felt that this design would be incorporated well with dance to exemplify fear and surprise. I used reticulated foam and spandex to create a life-like structure that would move with the dancers to make the snake come to life.
